Jacqueline Dawson – Artistic Director

Jacquie Dawson
Jacqueline Dawson, a native of St. John’s, Newfoundland, received undergraduate degrees in music and music education from Memorial University of Newfoundland and holds a masters degree in conducting from the University of Manitoba.
She has attended the Conductor’s Art Symposium at the University of Wisconsin, Madison and completed the Canadian Wind Conductor’s Development Program in Winnipeg. Principal conducting teachers have included Dr. Dale Lonis and Earl Stafford. Jacquie is active as a guest conductor, clinician and adjudicator throughout Manitoba and was the conductor of the University of Manitoba Wind Ensemble in the fall 2007.
Guest conducting engagements have included the International Peace Gardens in 2009, the 2005 Manitoba Provincial Junior Honour Band, several regional and divisional honour bands, as well as serving as one of four conductors in George Crumb’s StarChild at the 2007 Winnipeg Symphony Orchestra New Music Festival.
Jacqueline played clarinet with the Winnipeg Wind Ensemble for six seasons prior to her position as Artistic Director. She has taught elementary, choral and instrumental music in Newfoundland and Manitoba and currently teaches band at Vincent Massey Collegiate in Winnipeg and is Past-President of the Manitoba Band Association Board of Directors.
